Last week NZPI lodged its submission to the Resource Management (Freshwater and Other Matters) Amendment Bill and parliament are interested in what planners have to say. This submission is the Institute’s next phase of engagement in the reform of the Resource Management Act and NZPI hope to appear before the Primary Production Select Committee on this submission next week.

In the submission NZPI advocates for a long-term, strategic approach to reform of the RMA. This Bill represents a collection of discrete changes to the RMA, which are made in the context for further amendments to come. The submission asserts that NZ’s RM system shouldn’t be subject to ad hoc changes & that the Government needs to progress this work in a logical and evidence-based manner & allow Parliament a genuine opportunity to mould legislation that’s enduring.

Take the opportunity to watch NZPI’s appearance before the Primary Production Committee next Tuesday 9th July at 9am and see the next stage of RM reform in action.
