NZPI members are invited to participate in a research study titled 'Green Infrastructure Integration for Urban Transportation Systems in Building Sustainable and Resilient Cities'. This study is being undertaken by Ify Ukonze, a PhD student at the University of Otago.

Te Kōkiringa Taumata / New Zealand Planning Institute support research that contributes to a wider body of knowledge about the planning profession. The process of expanding this knowledge aligns with our strategic pillars (pou).

This project came about as part of the extreme weather events worldwide, affecting the existing transport infrastructure and making it difficult to be efficient in the case of climate hazards. The concept of green infrastructure (GI) claims to be a progressive climate adaptation tool that increases the resilience of cities. This study will examine why GI as a key strategy for advancing sustainable and resilient cities, has not reached its full potential. However, this survey will also examine stakeholder collaboration used in GI planning and implementation as it will test the framework designed to support its integration.

Completing this survey should take about 20 minutes of your time. The survey opens today, running over a two-week period between 14 June to 8 July. A link to the survey is available here.

NZPI is independent of this research. However, we have agreed to help facilitate this survey and will receive a copy of the final research report when complete and make it available to members.
