Head of Transport Planning and Advisory, WSP

I have been involved in the Auckland/Northland Branch Committee for 15+ years and am excited about the opportunity to be working alongside other passionate people on the Board to help set the future direction for our Institute and our industry.

I have worked in the public sector for almost 29 years and have recently joined the private sector. I have held strategy, policy, and planning roles in spatial strategy, city and district planning, community and open spaces planning, and transport, working with central government, local government, iwi, stakeholders, developers, and our communities at national, regional, and local levels. I have held client, customer, service provider, relationship management, leadership, and governance roles, with a focus on collaboration and bringing the right parties and skillsets together to enable a shared understanding of our why, the outcomes sought, and our how.

I have spent the last 17 years as an urban planner in transport land use integration. My previous role was as a senior leader at Auckland Transport leading a multi-disciplinary team of policy planners, regulatory planners, land use planners, transport planners, urban designers, and traffic engineers to champion the alignment of transport, land use, investment, and place-making outcomes internally and externally.

I was a proud recipient of the Distinguished Service Award in 2019. I have been active in supporting our younger planners in commencing their planning careers and in supporting their readiness to move forward with their next opportunity. I am also a member of the NZPI Membership Interview Panel. I have been very fortunate throughout my planning career to have great roles with a lot of variety and working with some amazing people. I am committed to enabling others to have such opportunities available to them.

I am passionate about ensuring positive recognition is given to our industry and the great outcomes that can be achieved through our involvement in conversations, projects, and initiatives. Our profession is in a state of flux – this can give us another chance to identify and influence the future direction for planning in New Zealand and we need to be thinking about how we can be supporting each other to get the best out of this opportunity. Collaboration and communication will be key to this, sharing our ideas, our knowledge, and experiences. Let’s celebrate our members and showcase our achievements.

Working together we can help shape our profession and our future communities for the better.
