Supported by WSP and NZPI, the Papa Pounamu Whakatutukitanga Scholarship is awarded annually to a student studying an NZPI accredited planning degree and recognises excellence and attainment by a student planner involved in Māori planning in an environmental framework.

This years’ recipient of the Papa Pounamu Whakatutukitanga Scholarship is:

    • Ruby Kimber

    Ruby holds a student membership with NZPI and is a first year Masters of Planning student at Te Whare Wānaka o Aoraki Lincoln.

    The judging panel felt Ruby’s application was compelling and recognised that her academic record and references demonstrated her alignment with the 5 values of NZPI’s Papa Pounamu ; Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga, Kaitiakitanga, Kotahitanga, and Whakatutukitanga.

    Her academic referee noted;

    “In all my academic and mentoring engagements with Ruby, she demonstrated a high capacity for learning, teamwork, and Māori planning perspective. In this, I observed Ruby’s remarkable dedication and aptitude in various academic endeavours. She demonstrates a particular interest in indigenous planning within the New Zealand context and often reflects this in various environmental planning matters”
