The Auckland / Northland Branch of Emerging Planners, one of our special interest groups (SIGs), are launching an expression of interest for the NZPI Auckland Emerging Planners Mentoring Programme for 2023.

The Mentoring Programme is for Emerging Planners in Auckland / Northland (planning professionals and not students this time) who will be mentored by NZPI full members for a 12-month voluntary commitment. The programme is for planners with up to five years of industry experience to take part in year long mentoring partnership with an NZPI full member. The purpose of this programme is for the emerging planner to gain career advice, insight into the work lives of experienced planners and build on their knowledge of planning. It is also an excellent opportunity for networking and getting to know planners in the industry outside of the immediate workplace. Those involved in the programme receive category 1 CPD points per meeting and this is for virtual or in person meetings.

While it is run by the Auckland / Northland branch and is for Auckland/northland branch members, the group have already had interest from members located in other branch areas and are happy to facilitate a virtual partnership for these members if they wish to participate in their programme. The Emerging Planners SIG is currently undertaking a review of the mentoring programme and succession of planners to find ways to support all branches launching a programme of their own.

The Emerging Planners Mentoring Programme is run every second year for a 12 -month duration and will now be interchanging with the Student Mentoring Programme which the Auckland / Northland EP branch ran successfully for the first time over 2021/2022. The Student Mentoring Programme is for undergraduate and master’s students studying planning to be mentored by an Emerging Planner (a planning professional with up to five years of industry experience) and aims to assist students with the transition from university into the industry with internships, planning assistant roles and graduate roles/programmes.

The Auckland / Northland Emerging Planners Branch is proud to support the ongoing facilitation of these programmes going forwards and appreciated those keen to give back to the industry by way of mentorship. The Committee is now seeking expressions of interest from both Emerging Planners and Full Members (mentors) to participate in the programme. Those with further questions can email: aucklandemergingplanners@gmail.com

Expressions of interest are open until 1 May 2023. Following on from that date, EP will be hosting a speed-dating style launch event in early May.
