A Submission by Te Kokiringa Taumata | New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI).

Ministry for the Environment (MfE) has been consulting on how to manage wetlands within the Coastal Marine Area (CMA). Currently, a national freshwater instrument, the National Environmental Standards for Freshwater (NES-F), apply to coastal wetlands. This has been causing some implementation issues, and the NES-F is about freshwater, and not coastal water. MfE proposes to fix this by excluding wetlands in the CMA from the NES-F. If that happens, regional coastal plans will manage wetlands in the CMA, and Te Kokiringa Taumata | New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI) thinks this is a good idea. Our submission supports this approach, which was actually what we suggested should be done in our earlier submission in July on the NES-F.
