Rihi has been working in the kaupapa Māori research space for two decades committing her research ideas and knowledge to developing and empowering whānau and Māori communities to grow and maintain their agency by facilitating and building capability skills through kaupapa Māori research informed initiatives. Currently Rihi is the Co-Director, Tangata Whenua, for the National Science Challenge, Building Better Homes, Towns and Cities – He kainga Whakamana Tangata, Whakamana Taiao.

Kia ora koutou,

Kaupapa Māori research has been part of the Aotearoa, New Zealand research landscape since the late 1980’s. Māori researchers utilise this platform to develop ways of thinking, being, knowing and writing research with an unapologetically Te Ao Māori (Māori Worldview lens). In my korero today we lean into a what it means to develop a robust Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi) Research Partnership, how is kaupapa Māori research represented in the Built in Environment here in Aotearoa and finally kaupapa Māori in the ever evolving digital space.
